Welcome to President Obama’s first pet… Bo a six-month old Portuguese water dog.
The Associated Press and Washington Post are reporting (the link also shows a photo of the presidential pooch wearing a lei – which i included on the cartoon version) that “Obama’s daughters chose the name Bo for the pup because first lady Michelle Obama’s father was nicknamed Diddley. The name for the dog was an apparent reference to the singer “Bo” Diddley.”
The first thing that sprang to mind when I heard the name was the ineptly named “Club B.O.” organization for young Obama supporters created by the campaign during the primaries. They dropped the “B.O.” name quickly after someone pointed out that those initials have a really negative connotation that clearly had been overlooked. The strip has the best alternative B.O.s I could think of on the fly.
