Less than a week to go

October 29th, 2008

Six days until the election and five more Socks and Barney strips until it’s all over. The plan is for new strips on Thursday, Friday, Monday, Election Day and a final one on Wednesday.

Tuesday’s strip might be the first on-line, online comic strip in history as I plan to draw it while standing in line as I wait to vote in what John’s brother Joe McCain calls the communist part of Virginia. I haven’t figured out how I’m doing it yet – maybe photographing the art with my iPhone and syncing it to my laptop. We’ll See. :)

I’m hoping to launch a completely new comic strip immediately after Socks and Barney ends – much less political and more fun. After the last two years of political Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, I think we could all use a break. I sure could.

The big surprise in the Socks and Barney trip for me was finding myself actually supporting a major political party’s nominee. That’s never happened for me and it threw me off my game. I was really expecting a Hillary-McCain matchup. That would’ve been a gold mine. As it is now, the best I can do it make fun of Biden’s ill-timed (if accurate) gaffes about foreign powers testing Obama. McCain and Palin have provided an endless stream of errors and despicable tactics but it ends up feeling like a crappy roadside carnival’s house of horrors with an endless parade of laughable boogymen scaring noone and just embarrassing themselves.

As of now, the most popular strip in Socks and Barney (tracking back as far as May of 2008) has been John McCheney and Sarah W. Palin with more than a quarter-million views (that’s 274,931 views of the page – that strip itself has been seen off-site quite a bit).

It’s been a fun run! I’ll have a more thoughtful final note next week.

Thanks again to everyone who has written, posted and spread the word. It means a lot!

I hope that the new strip will feature cameos from the Animal cast of Socks and Barney, as I have grown to love them….

Perhaps in 4 more years we shall see them again!

Make sure you’re not drawing the comic near the polling area, otherwise they may kick you out of line. And yes, I’m being serious.
