26 days to go.
October 9th, 2008The McCain campaign is now in full-on Mark-Penn-bonkers mode and is throwing everything they can at Obama. When McCain repeated his call for a steady hand at the tiller during the debate, it sounded like he was cutting an ad for Obama.
McCain’s home-buyout plan - first unveiled during Tuesday night’s debate - was fully detailed Wednesday and it’s a mess. Obama wasted no time jumping on it…
Been fighting a bit of a cold and it’s put a drag on everything. I realized too late that in Tuesday’s post-debate strip, Vinny has managed to master his non-regional diction.
Andrew Sullivan and Josh Marshall, two of my favorite online commentators, seem to have reached the conclusion that McCain was always the political opportunist we see before us. I don’t think it’s all that simple. Matt Welch’s terrific book McCain: The Myth of the Maverick gives a much more nuanced look at the man and I still think a pure political opportunist would never have called Falwell an Agent of Intolerance. That McCain is gone, subsumed under this wholly-political and dishonest McCain 2.0. And it’s not that the scales have been lifted from our eyes, it’s that we honestly lost a decent man.
