Debate tonight!

October 7th, 2008

With four weeks until the election, Obama and McCain face off tonight in their second debate – or first debate if you don’t count the dueling monologues held two weeks ago.

I’ll be drawing today’s strip during the debate and will post it afterward.

The build up tonight is that nasty, Old Man McCain is going to get nastier. And that Obama is packing brass knuckles or a flamethrower or some such.

Since the format is that of a town hall with attendees asking questions and Tom “journalistically-impartial-to-right-and-wrong” Brokaw is moderating, McCain will be in his element. Obama’s style is a throwback to the pre-Oprah/Donahue presidents and he really does belong behind a podium. It’ll be interesting to see how he does in this environment. I suspect that once he’s in shirtsleeves among the town-folk, a Registered Republican will ask him to park their Mercedes.

My prediction: Obama gains two points in the polls nationally once people see how short McCain is compared to Obama – they couldn’t really tell in the last debate.

Sorry, but as a very good friend of mine said, “there’s nice and then there’s the truth.”

  1. That Jeff Says:

Actually, I wondered about that last night. Isn’t there like a study that shows the taller candidate typically wins? And I thin Obama did a good job with the town meeting forum–McCain seemed to struggle a little and seemed to be overusing “my friends” in order to sound more likable. McCain really does better behind the podium.
