McCain picks Palin and what it means

August 30th, 2008

John McCain has selected Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his Vice Presidential running mate.

His choice shows breathtaking skill as an intellectual contortionist. He has found a way to pander to both the Hillary Clinton crowd AND the religious right. And just to clarify: he won’t get any of Hillary Clinton’s votes and he could always have safely taken the religious right for granted.

Some random thoughts:

  • McCain has made a mockery of his “experience counts” argument and completely undercut one of primary cases against Obama
  • Governor Palin really was a beauty pageant contestant and a runner up for Miss Alaska. I don’t know what that means, but I think it’s a first unless Pat “Gams” Buchanan’s not telling us something.
  • McCain only met Palin ONCE before selecting her as his Vice President. This was in no way a personal decision.
  • If you’re gong to select a president based solely on their ability to pick a qualified replacement should harm or incapacitation befall them: McCain picked Sarah Palin. Ralph Nader picked a guy named Gonzalez (Nader really doesn’t understand salesmanship at all does he?). Bob Barr picked Wayne Allyn Root, quite possibly the schmatlziest nominee for vice president in history. Obama picked Joe Biden.
  • Although there are many things in her thin resume which make her completely unqualified to be the President of the United States such as being anti-choice and pro-creationism in the classroom, number one for me was that she pronounces nuclear as “nucular.”
  • McCain’s selection of Palin makes me think the Republicans aren’t even really trying this year.

And lastly, let me say the most damning thing about the Republican Party I can possibly muster. Not only is it damning, John Sidney McCain the Third claims to agree with me.

Off all the republicans in the country, every single one of them… Sarah Palin is absolutely the most qualified of them all to be President of the United States should something happen to John McCain.

If you agree with that, then you trust McCain’s judgment and wisdom. If you don’t… how do you trust someone to do a job who can’t even recognize the skill set required to do it?

McCain is absolutely as bad as W. And he may be worse since no other candidate has sold out so badly and so completely.

Talk about yer Bush all over!

Just came across this little tidbit about her as well (amongst several other interesting ones there):

Between that, and this video - http://talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/211310.php - she sounds like as big a double-talker as McCain (if not bigger). Colour me unimpressed.
