I miss Tim Russert
June 23rd, 2008Brian Williams hosted yesterday’s Meet The Press and it was terribly lacking.
Tim Russert was a relentless bulldog and it was tough for the spin doctors to ever get a talking point past him without him knocking it down and dragging the interviewee kicking and screaming back to the question.
Williams’ measured, aloof – Brokaw-light – style let GOP Senator Lindsey Graham repeat the same talking point at least three times and even read from a piece of paper.
I’m one of the few people living inside the beltway who doesn’t think Russert should be canonized but it’s absolutely clear that the purveyors of bullshit in D.C. just found their job a lot easier.
And the truth lost one of its better defenders.
It was announced that Tom Brokaw will be filling in for Russert through the election. I’m not optimistic.
