On Clinton’s RFK crazytalk…

May 27th, 2008

I’ve been asked do I think she wishes Obama harm. I do not. I think it’s clear from the video of her speaking that she’s exhausted. I think that her weariness is dropping her guard and some very ugly comments are coming out. I’m convinced of a couple of things…

  • Clinton feels robbed
  • She and her inner circle of enablers have convinced themselves that she has the best shot against McCain – despite any evidence to the contrary (contradictory poll numbers, massive campaign debt, etc.)
  • Clinton’s sense of loss, rage and indignation is driving her nuts. She’s WAY off her a-game and her comments are getting crazier and more desperate.
  • And most importantly… She will lie, cheat and steal to win the nomination and the presidency. Rightly, she believes this is an asset against McCain. It was how the Clintons did so well against the GOP for years. But it doesn’t work against a fellow Democrat. The Dems have seen these ugly tactics at work against them for years and they haven’t been in a position to stop it. But now they can. They can stop it during a democratic primary and that’s why she’s losing support every day.

It is never an asset to me, vs. McCain or anyone else. If she will do this to McCain, she’ll do it to the American people if she gets elected. If the people can’t have even the most basic amount of trust in a candidate, that candidate shouldn’t be President. Seems pretty simple to me.

I find it sad that one of the principles I value in a candidate the most is the least likely to be the one I’ll get on the campaign trail. That principle is: honesty. Even when it hurts or isn’t what the people want to hear, it’s what we ought to have. Too many people would rather have sunshine blown up their *** these days, but who started that? Politicians –telling us what we wanted to hear, even when they knew reality was different, and that has perpetuated the cycle. Promising us the moon, even when we knew it couldn’t happen (though deluding ourselves sometimes seems to be a national pastime).

I guess that there are two solutions to this problem: One –we need politicians that will tell us the truth. But to get that, we need solution number two: We need to stop “drinking the sand” we’re told is water, and demand honesty from them.
