Thoughts on Obama’s speech on race
March 20th, 2008It appears as though, politically, Obama’s speech was a success. Apart from it being almost universally praised for it’s ethical and poetic strengths, it managed an important political achievement: it changed the mainstream media’s narrative away from the Reverend Wright video loop. Almost immediately, the MSM stopped playing those clips.
The Wright controversy is the second major political storm that the Obama camp has weathered – the first being the false Nafta/Canada pre-Ohio debacle. In both cases, Obama’s acquitted himself nicely (if a bit late regarding Nafta/Canada to help hold Texas given the timing of the attacks). It bodes well for him in the general.
