Comic strip #100
March 5th, 2008I can’t believe there have been 100 of these things already. The nomination contests have been more surprising , complicated and dramatic than I’d ever expected and the strip has been even more fun to do because of it.
I can’t tell you how much I appreciate all the kind words, and support I’ve received since starting Socks and Barney.
Continued after the jump.
We’re now up to 4,100 unique readers each week and growing steadily. So far, the two most popular comic strips have beenĀ Berserker Rage – undoubtedly because of the Warcraft reference – and surprisingly The Significant States of America. More infographic-style strips are in the works.
I have a few favorite strips… Re: Death do they part – because it actually sums up how well I think people who genuinely disagree can respect one other. I love that even though a person thinks that they are 100% correct – especially as far as philosophical/religious/ethical issues go – that confidence shouldn’t trump good will and benevolence. It’s that strip which shows how Barney and Socks can get along despite their differences.
I also love A chilling tale… and Many unhappy returns because the lines “Gather ’round, hippies” and “business ham” never stop making me laugh.
With strip #100, I also think I’ve finally nailed a version of Vinny that I like. He’s developed quite a bit since strip #1 and I think he looks the way he should. I’m sure the characters will keep evolving.
This far along with the strip, I actually thought we would have picked nominees by now and that I’d have the characters doing some other non-political things. It looks like this election cycle has other ideas.
Thanks again, everyone. I’ve had a chance to exchange e-mails with so many terrific readers and I’m always impressed with the level of concern and thoughtfulness I’ve encountered. There have been some boneheads too but the signal-to-noise ratio has been better than I ever could’ve hoped.
Back to the drawing board.

Congratulations Steve
socks… is definitely on my daily read list here too. i have to agree the entertainment afforded by the process hasnt dulled any as the process has gone on…mind you im an aussie so its not my problem who gets picked but its sure educational watching…
my favourite serious line/comics has to be the ‘thats loser talk’ (go directly to gitmo) along with ‘unquestionable’ which sums up absurdities pretty well, chilling tales does the same but not so much about the military thinking…
the little details are great as well – the fake ‘ticker’ stories on any broadcast was a great idea. and when are we getting another Democratic Ass comic?
At any rate…heres to many more episodes of Socks & Barney!

Congrats man! Love the comic strip, I’ve been reading since, like, the third comic. It’s nice to have a regularly updated political strip I an visit for some laughs. Oh, and I completely agree with adam. We want the Democratic Ass!

Funny that it’s comic 100 and Obama still doesn’t have a pet.
