Ralph Nader runs again
February 25th, 2008On Meet The Press, Ralph Nader announced that he will be running for President once again.
Nader is loathed by Democrats who blame him for Al Gore’s declared loss in Florida to George Bush. Gore’s loss, of course, had more to do with Bill Clinton’s actions in the White House, Gore’s weaknesses as a candidate, a troubled campaign, Karl Rove’s strategy for Bush and ultimately the Supreme Court deciding Florida for W. But it’s soooo much simpler to just blame Nader so it’s hard to see Nader generating too much appeal among progressives.
With Obama and McCain running, probably the two most independent-centric candidates either party has had in a looong while, I don’t see where Nader thinks he can get any traction.
I still like the guy and he was right about seat belts but I don’t know what the heck he’s thinking.

I like Nader too. We owe him a lot and his heart is in the right place, but he should stay the hell away from the presidential race. He has zero chance of winning and the best he can hope for is to take votes away from the Democrats. Last time he ran, he siphoned away enough votes away from Al Gore to leave us in this mess. In his mind the Democrats and the Republicans are the same, but I’d rather have a Democrat over Dubya or McCain.
