Barack Obama wins DC and Virginia BIG
February 12th, 20088:44pm ET: Continuing the Potomac Primary blogging after the above bit of comedy.
8:32pm ET: Clinton is expected to speak from El Paso, TX in the next 10-15 minutes.
8:29pm ET: NBC calling Virginia for McCain. It was a squeaker. Really good news for McCain. Really bad news for the right-wing noisemakers.
8:19pm ET: As we wait for more results, I posted Saturday’s Mitt Romney strip
8:13pm ET: With 36% reporting in Virginia, Barack is up 25% over Clinton. This is huge.
8:06pm ET: With 29% of the vote in Virginia, McCain leads by only 558 votes. Yikes!
8:00pm ET: Obama is the projected winner of DC. With 25% of the vote in McCain leads Huckabee in Virginia by less than 900 votes. Very close.
7:40pm ET: Bad weather is keeping the polls open in Maryland for another 90 minutes until 9:30pm ET.
7:18pm ET: Pat Buchanan on MSNBC just called Alexandria and my neighborhood of Arlington “marxist.” I nearly spit my chardonnay all over my cashmere beret.
7:00pm ET: The polls just closed in Virginia and MSNBC, CNN and Fox are calling it for Obama. That means, according to the exit polls, he won by a BIG margin. MSNBC is calling the win, “substantial”.
I spent the last two nights handing out Obama literature at Arlington Metro (subway) stops and I had the sense Obama would do well in Northern Virginia but this is surprising.
Virginia was Hillary’s best bet for the night. This looks like it’s shaping up to be eight contests in a row for Obama.
The GOP side is being labeled, “too close to call” right now.
