I dunno, I can see people’s complaint that McCain is being “negative”… but I personally see it as realistic. “The War on Terror” and war in general, is not going to be over tomorrow. As long as people are in conflict with themselves and others, and emotions like lust, anger, greed, vengence, jealousy, fear, love, protectiveness, and loyalty exist… there will be war. That’s my opinion of course.
Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t see McCain as advocating “lets invade and kill everyone”…

John, I see what you’re saying. I posted that video since it was funny - not because it sums up the man.
McCain’s a strong anti-torture advocate. He’s good on that front. I don’t think he’s a nation-builder the way Bush/Cheney neocons are. The way I see the “surge” it was more of a calculated and reinforced fall-back to Baghdad. The additional troops were one part of the solution but also a calculated retreat back to the capitol was just as important in reducing U.S. casualties and reducing violence in the city. The current plan seems to be that they want to secure Baghdad, bribe the outlying areas to play nice and maybe get a government off the ground.
The Ron Paul, Obama, Clinton argument against that approach is “at what cost?”
All the folks supporting a continued presence there are arguing that our departure would make things worse. Which is possible, long-term.
All the folks supporting hasty withdrawal are arguing that it would stop Americans from being killed, eliminate the insane costs associated with the occupation, end a war that runs counter to the Constitution and free up our military to deal with other pressing matters. Which is certain.
