John Edwards dropping out
January 30th, 2008UPDATE: Here is Edwards’ farewell announcement…
This just being reported now from the Associated Press:
Democrat John Edwards is exiting the presidential race Wednesday, ending a scrappy underdog bid in which he steered his rivals toward progressive ideals while grappling with family hardship that roused voter’s sympathies but never diverted his campaign, The Associated Press has learned.
He’s expected to make the announcement in New Orleans at 1pm EST. A couple of immediate thoughts:
So it’s now a two-person race between Clinton and Obama. And a two-person debate Thursday night.
Who will Edwards endorse (if anyone)? This will be huge.
It’s a shame his campaign never got the attention and free media of the other two. That was something his campaign couldn’t really compete with.

I expect Edwards will support Obama. The way he attacked Hillary in the debates, I would expect nothing less. I am sorry as well to see him drop out, but he couldn’t compete with the resources of both Obama and Hillary.
Despite winning in Florida’s beauty contest, Hillary is facing a hard road ahead. She needs to start gaining on Obama in order to obtain the nomination. Obama is collecting quite a set of endorsements, John Kerry notwithstanding. It is beginning to look like Obama is going to be the Democratic candidate.
