Monday news items

January 28th, 2008

Ted Kennedy and Caroline Kennedy are endorsing Obama now – it’s on MSNBC. It’s happening a few miles from here in Washington DC. Sadly, I had too much work to do or I would have been there.

Updated to include video of the speech…

George W. Bush’s last State of the Union address is tonight.

Romney starts the week off right. Journalists and commentators find themselves in the completely unexpected position of defending Romney’s record against McCain’s exaggerations regarding a timetable for withdrawal. When asked by reporters abut McCain’s charge, Romney said, “Well, he’s lying.”

Awesome.

For far too long, the media and the candidates have lacked the willingness to call someone a liar. They use an endless parade of euphemisms like “shading the truth” or “misrepresenting the facts” or “being less than forthright”.

Romney broke some ground. Wonderful.

When a reporter asked Romney, “are you calling him a liar?”

Romney lied, “No I’m not. I’m saying he made a dishonest comment. I misspoke.”

*sigh*

Stumble it!

See, I was at least hoping Romney would be flustered, but he just contradicts himself immediately without even breaking a sweat… the flustered “Uh, I mean…” would at least be something genuine, even if “bad” for the campaign. Instead, we see just how easy the candidate can lie through his teeth.

    Boo.
