Obama wins South Carolina

January 26th, 2008

7:00 pm: NBC is calling it for Obama. The exit polls are calling it a “substantial victory.”

The Associated Press is calling it a rout.

Fantastic.

Clinton takes 2nd with less than half the votes of Obama.

8:15: Bill Clinton is giving a concession speach of sorts. He then went on to talk about his qualifications for president. How crazy is this?

9:00: Amazing speech by Obama. Strongest line: This is about the past versus the future.

A solid speech from Edwards.

Hillary is about to take the stage and it turns out she’s not giving a concession speech. She’s going to give a stump speech. Another wonderful illustration of Clinton’s nature - no public concessions. Great line from Howard Fineman, “how many delegates are there in the state of denial?”

Stumble it!

And a sigh of relief comes out of me. He needed this.

I think it’s an amazing chance for Obama.

I desperately don’t want to see another Clinton administration (especially the former first lady), and while some of Obama’s views scare me - larger government, mostly - his speech is inspiring. I don’t think I’ve heard one with that much passion, that much conviction, and that much hope in a long while.

Depending on who the Republican’s end up nominating, Obama might just get my vote.

Wonderful wonderful wonderful. Obama has the ability to be so inspiring.
