State of the Comic Strip

January 25th, 2008

As you can tell, the site is getting an overhaul. This is a work in progress and changes will continue over the weekend. I’ve been VEEERYYY hesitant to allow users to comment on the site given how I’ve seen the USA TODAY and other news web sites quickly become a madhouse. And the shills for the many campaigns target even the obscure backwaters of the web to place their propoganda. It’s an experiment I’m entering into with an open mind and I hope we’ll all play reasonably. Playing nice is also an option, but I’ll settle for everyone playing reasonably. :)

Thanks again to the many readers who have written in. Your feedback has been instrumental in shaping the site and I truly appreciate both the kind words and the criticisms.

Socks and Barney is now getting a little more than 3,300 unique readers each week. Thanks also to everyone for spreading the word.

Once I get a few more bugs sorted out on the site (assuming the whole thing doesn’t explode), two more strips will be posted. At this rate, I expect them to go up Saturday midday. Thanks for your patience.

Tomorrow, Saturday, is the South Carolina Democratic primary. Polls are open from 7am to 7pm. I’ll be blogging as the results come in.

Thanks!
– Steve

    Hey Steve!

Got to say I really enjoy Socks and Barney, although occasionally I miss the “inconsistent” publishing schedule… but hey, that’s life! I was referred to you by Scott Kurtz over at PvP and wanted to thank you for your insightful commentary on our political process… not to mention helping me make up my mind!

    Best Wishes,

Thanks for the note John! A great thing about the new software is that I can spend less time coding and more time drawing which will help me stay on schedule - a tough job when I’m trying to stay on top the news.

Thanks for the really kind words.

PVP and Scott Kurtz are too awesome.

    Cheers!
