Hillary getting called on her big fat lies

January 24th, 2008

Site updates were held up with an FTP/server permissions problem that the ISP has sorted out. So we’re back in business. :) Still waiting on my new brush pens. The art has been sloooow going. Fun drawing a Tusken raider anyway. :)

There is a the start of something very positive for the Democrats. Hillary Clinton and her campaign are more and more getting grief for their outright lies and distortions. I thought this would be something only the Sunday morning talk shows would even address. On Meet The Press, for example, the panel was basically mocking Hillary’s distortions of Obama’s accurate comments about Reagan’s influence (for good and/or ill) on the course of America. Today’s Washington Post editorial sums it up and goes so far as to call Clinton a liar…

That didn’t stop the Clinton campaign, which went up with a new radio ad yesterday quoting Mr. Obama out of context. “Aren’t those the ideas that got us into the economic mess we’re in today? Ideas like special tax breaks for Wall Street. Running up a $9 trillion debt. Refusing to raise the minimum wage or deal with the housing crisis. Are those the ideas Barack Obama’s talking about?” Ms. Clinton knows they’re not. In fact, on policy grounds, the two candidates are extremely close, which makes the nomination fight in part about character and judgment. This episode does not speak well for Ms. Clinton’s.

I added emphasis to the bold text there.

A former Hillary supporter switches to Barack because of Hillary’s dishonest campaign tactics. This woman is far from alone…

Fact Checking…
Added a link to FactCheck.org. They’re a great resource for sorting out the lies in the campaigns. Their fact checking of Monday’s South Carolina debate can be found here.

The Post grows a testicle
A must-read piece in today’s Washington Post calls Hillary out on her distortions and flat-out lies. The Post also had a story in Tuesday’s edition where they called BS on her lies during Monday’s debate under the LAAAAMME headline “Undue Diligence Toward Obama.” What diligence?Hillary has possibly the best political war room in the history of campaigns. When she gets something wrong, it’s not an error OR a failure of dilligence. It’s outright Rovian/Bushian lying. It’s a point that today’s Post editorial seems to get.

Barack (finally) fights back: “She’ll say anything and change nothing.”
New Obama radio ad calls Hillary out on her lies and sources the Washington Post and FactCheck.org stories… Good for him. The MP3 of his ad is here.

The State endorses Obama
South Carolina’s The State Newspaper Endorses Obama with two key quotes…

“The one most significant difference between them can be found in how they would approach the presidency – and how the nation might respond.”

and

“The restoration of the Clintons to the White House would trigger a new wave of all-out political warfare.”

Stories and opinions like those above give me some hope.

The Republicans will debate tonight (minus Fred Thompson who dropped out Tuesday) in Florida. MSNBC will broadcast the event at 9pm EST.

Had a great exchange with a reader regarding John Edward’s campaign. I expect to post some of it tomorrow.
