Democrat Debate and Romney wins Michigan
January 15th, 2008POST-DEBATE WRAP UP:
All three candidates did well. I didn’t see any real shakeup of the race. Obama’s debate performance was MUCH better than his previous showings. I think he’s getting the hang of it. The candidates had the opportunity to ask another candidate a question and Hillary’s was to ask Barack to co-sponsor an senate resolution to tie Bush’s hands on Iraq. It was oddly parallel to the Rick Lazio moment during Clinton’s original Senate run. She played it VERY well. Most telling moment:
* Brian Williams asking each candidate their strengths and weaknesses. According to Hillary, her weakness is that she’s too awesome and then - without skipping a beat - she attacked Obama - in FACT - illustrating her real weakness. Such a wonderfully clear moment.
MICHIGAN PRIMARY WRAP-UP:
* First off, the Democrats had a beauty contest - the votes had no weight at the convention because the DNC stripped Michigan of its delegates since it had moved the event ahead of February 5. Obama and Edwards had their names removed from the ballot. Clinton kept hers on. She only beat uncommitted by 15%: 55% to 40%.
* Romney’s got his gold medal and won the GOP primary. McCain came in second with Huckabee in third. Ron Paul came in forth with double Rudy Giuliani’s vote!
